MASTERCLASSES
During her youth, Ishani attended numerous masterclasses given by world-class teachers. Ishani recognizes the importance of such masterclasses, not simply for their educational content, but as much for their inspirational value.
As part of Waverley Ensemble’s educational work, and in conjunction with her own teaching practice, Ishani has partnered with Musical Orbit to start a program of masterclasses aimed at students in county youth orchestras in the UK. Between three and five students are invited to take part in masterclasses conducted by well respected teachers of that instrument.
MASTERCLASS WITH ROBERT deMAINE, PRINCIPAL CELLO, LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC
Previous masterclasses have included those hosted by Robert deMaine, Principal Cello of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and by Pieter Schoeman, Concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
In each case, students from Hampshire County Youth Orchestra participated in these masterclasses. Over the course of three hours, students had the opportunity to work on a chosen piece with a renowned musician and teacher.
In addition to direct learning, students gain significant insights from listening and watching the other students’ masterclasses.
As well as chosen student masterclasses, Ishani also runs masterclasses of teachers holding classes with their own, regular students, giving viewers the opportunity to gain insights into teaching through observation of lessons.
